Shitsurindo Lacquer Soup Bowl by BEAMS JAPAN
Shitsurindo has made fine lacquerware in Fukui prefecture for over two centuries since its beginning in 1793. These lidded bowls are made by hand painting lacquer onto wooden bowls. Real lacquer differs from plastic in that its shine increases with use, while plastic bowls eventually lose shine.
This red bowl is adorned by a ‘Chojugiga' illustration, which is said to be the oldest form of Japanese manga. Serve soup at the dining table or show it on a display shelf. Not suitable for the dishwashing machine.
