Jackie Robinson's classic home jersey from the 1955 season commemorated a major turning point for the franchise - the year they won their first World Series. Robinson would spend all ten seasons of his career in Brooklyn, contributing to six of the team's pennants. The Dodgers would eventually retire the #42 jersey in 1972, however the entire MLB would follow suit to retire his number for every team to honor the 50th anniversary of Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball. Since 2007, every player and coach in the MLB has worn #42 on April 15 to tribute Jackie Robinson Day.
