Description

About The Artist

Contemporary American Sculptor and installation artist Olivia Steele pens carefully chosen phrases using brightly colored, bent neon tubes that mimic her own handwriting. Based between Berlin and Mexico City, Steele is inspired in part by Light and Space artist James Turrell. Her sculptures elicit a variety of meanings with a small handful of words: She claims that her irreverent one-liners are about “the fucking truth,” with titles such as All I Ever Wanted Was Everything (2018) and Everyday’s An Audition (2012). Her work has been exhibited numerous times at Art Basel in Miami Beach, and she frequently creates site-specific installations that allow an audience’s interpretation of her work to be influenced by the surrounding buildings and natural environment.
